Bastrop Middle School Theater on a Global Stage

(Bastrop)--Bastrop Middle School theater students will make history when they perform We Will Rock You The Musical at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Performing Arts Center. This will mark the first time a middle school has performed the musical on any stage in the world since it typically is performed by high school students and young adults. A total of 75 students are involved in the historic production, which opens Friday.

"This is a big thing for Bastrop Middle School. We are the very first middle school ever to perform We Will Rock You The Musical, so that means our production photos will be the ones that represent the middle school section on the publisher's website,” said Kelsey Schmitz, drama teacher at Bastrop Middle School. “This is huge for our theatre company and our school--to be recognized on a worldwide website. The kids are extremely excited!"

Performances are scheduled for the next two weekends (January 13-14 and January 20-21). The performance starts at 7:00 p.m.  The price of admission is $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and children. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Bastrop ISD is located 30 miles southeast of Austin and serves more than 10,500 students from the communities of Bastrop, Cedar Creek, Red Rock, Rockne, Paige and other rural areas of Bastrop County.
